Peace or War?
Have We Not Given Enough? Now They Want Canadian Blood Spilt?
By Michael Bator | michaelbator.substack.com
As Canadians, we stand at a crossroads. Our government, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has dangled a chilling prospect before us: sending our sons, fathers, and neighbors to spill their blood on foreign soil in Ukraine. On February 24, 2025, while in Kyiv to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion, Trudeau told reporters that “everything is on the table” when it comes to supporting Ukraine, including the possibility of “boots on the ground” to enforce a potential peace deal.1 This isn’t just rhetoric—it’s a signal that our government is willing to mortgage not just our financial future, but the very lives of our people, for a war that is not ours.
Canada has already poured billions into Ukraine—nearly $20 billion since 2022, according to the Prime Minister’s own office. This includes $5 billion from seized Russian assets announced in February 2025, alongside military aid like armored vehicles and training for over 44,000 Ukrainian troops.2 Our children’s future is already leveraged against this conflict, with a national debt spiraling out of control and taxes siphoning away our hard-earned money. Yet now, they ask for more—not just our wallets, but our blood. I say enough is enough.
This is not our war. Our military is in shambles—underfunded, overstretched, and demoralized. Reports from the National Post in 2023 highlighted how Canada’s armed forces face equipment shortages and recruitment crises, exacerbated by controversial policies like mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations that drove out skilled personnel.3 Add to that the divisive DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) mandates, which critics argue prioritize ideology over merit, further eroding morale. Our army isn’t ready to defend us, let alone fight halfway across the world. Why should we sacrifice what little we have left for a cause that doesn’t serve Canadians?

Ukraine’s corruption is no secret.4 Before the war, it ranked 122nd out of 180 countries on Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (2021). Allegations of graft persist, even amid conflict—look at the 2023 scandal where Ukrainian officials embezzled funds meant for military supplies, as reported by BBC Ukraine corruption scandal. And what of the darker claims? Whispers of biolabs, child trafficking, and gun-running swirl online, though hard evidence remains elusive or contested. The presence of far-right elements in Ukraine’s forces, like the Azov Battalion, is better documented—celebrated by some as heroes, criticized by others as neo-Nazi sympathizers, per Reuters Azov Battalion profile.5 Whether every accusation holds, the stench of corruption and moral ambiguity clings to this regime. Why prop up a government that cancels elections, shutters churches, and silences dissent, as Zelenskyy has done since 2022 under martial law?
I ask Trudeau and his ilk: if you care so much, why don’t you go fight? Send your money, not ours. Stop stealing from Canadians to fund a gravy train for the elite—their NGOs, UN cronies, lobbyists, and corporate pals. Our tax system is a bloated beast, feeding a government that grows fatter while we struggle with crumbling roads, a hollowed-out military, and a cost-of-living crisis. The Fraser Institute notes Canada’s federal spending has ballooned to unsustainable levels, with little to show for it domestically Canada’s fiscal crisis. We’re not just broke—we’re broken.6
We must unite for peace, not war. Our prosperity hangs by a thread, and our freedoms are chipped away by policies that suffocate the individual under the weight of bureaucracy. Imagine a Canada where we rebuild our own house—fix our roads, bolster our defenses, and prioritize our people. Instead, we’re pawns in a geopolitical game, watching the king and queen dine unaffected while soldiers bleed for their power plays. It’s a psyop we keep falling for, but we can say no. We must say no.
Let’s restore our nation. No Canadian blood should stain Ukraine’s soil to prop up a criminal regime. If peace is the goal, let it be negotiated without our sacrifice. Stand together, reject this travesty, and maybe—just maybe—we can heal and prosper again. Leave my children out of it. We want peace, not war.
