Don’t Trust the Media: Not Mainstream Nor Alternative
By Jane Scharf
There is no mainstream media outlet you can fully trust—and that includes so-called “alternative” outlets. Every publication has filters, funding influences, and often editorial constraints—whether it’s CBC, Rebel News, Epoch Times, True North, or even “independent” Substack writers.
Instead of trusting a publication, trust a method:
What can you trust?
1. Primary Source Documentation
Look for:
- Government bills, Hansard transcripts, FOIs, legal rulings
- Health Canada records, court filings, international treaty texts
If they’re citing primary law, statute, or evidence—not summaries or opinion—you can verify it yourself.
2. Outlets That Promote Civic Action (Not Just Outrage)
Look for content that:
- Encourages lawful remedy (judicial reviews, jury trials, grand juries)
- Educates people on rights under the Canadian Bill of Rights and common law
- Names structural solutions, not just political villains
Most “media” only make you angry. Trust the ones that make you act.

3. Willingness to Criticize Both Sides
Watch out for:
- Outlets that only slam Trudeau but give Poilievre or the CPC a pass
- Voices that call out the WEF but ignore UN treaties, WHO influence, or Crown corporate collusion
Honest media is unpopular with all parties.
Trust No One Fully—Not Even Me
You shouldn’t “trust” any outlet in the passive sense. Instead, you should:
- Cross-reference sources
- Save your own copies of original documents
- Track what they omit just as much as what they say
If You Want Real Reporting:
- Follow citizen researchers who publish documents, not just opinions
- Join local action groups who use media to inform—not to pacify
- Build your own network of verifiers, not influencers
