Absurdity Observer – December 2023

Some Of The Most Absurd Things That Have Happened In Recent Weeks

  • A Washington Post investigation found that the Canadian Sugar Institute (a national non-profit association that claims to provide “a science-based nutrition information service on sugars”) recently paid at least a dozen dieticians for videos that encouraged people to give in to cravings for sugary foods, mocked advice to cut sugar intake, and urged parents to let children eat as much candy as they want.
  • A new report released by Juniper Research finds that investments in smart city technology across the globe are skyrocketing. The report estimates that the global annual spending on smart city projects will increase from $35 billion in 2021 to $70 billion in 2026, with a large chunk of the spending directed towards gathering intelligence through smart technologies.
  • Artificial intelligence is on track to have a larger impact on the environment than entire countries, according to a recent study published in the journal Joule (de Vries). Given the immense amount of energy needed to train and integrate data into AI, the research found that Al could undermine supposed efforts to reduce carbon emissions by eventually consuming as much energy as a country the size of Sweden by 2027. Worst case scenario, the study estimates, in roughly three years, “Google’s AI alone could consume as much electricity as a country such as Ireland.” According to the International Energy Agency, energy production is currently responsible for over three-quarters of global greenhouse emissions.

  • The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials showed a 3.7-fold increase in the number of deaths due to cardiovascular events in vaccinated subjects compared to placebo controls. This information, from Pfizer’s own data, was disclosed following a Freedom of Information Request by the Texas group Public Health and Medical Professionals for Transparency. Initially, the FDA intended to keep the trial data confidential for 75 years, citing the sensitivity of the health outcomes of the 44,060 trial participants. The analyzed data can be found in a peer-reviewed article published in the International Journal of Vaccine Theory, Practice, and Research (IJVTPR) titled, “Forensic analysis of the 38 subject deaths in the 6-Month Interim Report of the Pfizer/ BioNTech BNT162b2 mRNA Vaccine Clinical Trial” (Michels et al.). For a deep dive into the data, see hartgroup.org/danger-signals
  • A Canadian study finds DNA contamination in both Pfizer’s and Moderna’s COVID mRNA vaccines. The study also found a strong relationship between DNA contamination and side effects experienced by those vaccinated. The study, titled “DNA fragments detected in monovalent and bivalent Pfizer/ BioNTech and Moderna modRNA COVID-19 vaccines from Ontario, Canada: Exploratory dose response relationship with serious adverse events” (Speicher et al.), found “the presence of billions to hundreds of billions of DNA molecules per dose in these vaccines…. all vaccines exceed the guidelines for residual DNA set by FDA and WHO of 10 ng/dose by 188 – 509-fold…. In an exploratory analysis, we found preliminary evidence of a dose-response relationship of the amount of DNA per dose and the frequency of serious adverse events (SAEs).”
  • An Ontario Doctor who publicly rejected COVID-19 mandates is found guilty of spreading “misinformation,” raising free speech concerns. The Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons ruled in a disciplinary tribunal that Dr. Mark Trozzi is guilty of professional misconduct, dishonorable conduct, and incompetence in the practice of medicine. The tribunal based its judgment on Dr. Trozzi’s dissent from authorities’ views on COVID-19 mandates, which they categorized as “misinformation.” Dr. Trozzi’s medical license hangs in the balance while he awaits a penalty hearing.
  • For the third year in a row, the UK’s Office for National Statistics has reported a marked increase in excess deaths among the 15-44 age group. In 2023, this rate significantly surpassed the figures from the years prior to the introduction of the COVID-19 vaccine and notably exceeded the excess death rate recorded in 2020.(Data available at bit.ly/46vcDsi)
  • Ireland’s Department of Health claims that the recent increase in excess mortality is “an indicator of the impact of climate change” and says that heart-related issues and tumors were some of the leading causes of climate-related deaths last year.
  • For the first time in 20 years, the US infant mortality rate is on the rise. New data from the CDC show a nearly 3% rise in the rate of infant deaths between 2021 and 2022, which is the largest year-over-year increase the agency has recorded in over 20 years.
  • Not addressing climate change is racist, according to the Canadian federal government. In her 2023 fiscal update to the Commons, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland stated that inequitable environmental policies, laws, and decisions that do not address climate change are a form of “environmental racism” that disproportionately impacts “racialized individuals, groups, and communities.”
  • A British museum announces it is relabeling its display of a Roman emperor after concluding he was a transgender woman. The North Hertfordshire Museum will now refer to Roman emperor Elagabalus with female pronouns, citing references indicating he had a feminine side. A spokesperson for the museum said it was “only polite and respectful to be sensitive to identifying pronouns for people in the past.”
  • US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer is taking the Polish government to court for not purchasing 60 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, breaking their contract. The Polish government says the vials would go to waste. According to Canada’s Auditor General, such advanced purchasing agreements led to Canada disposing of a staggering $1 billion worth of COVID-19 vaccines in December 2022, on top of tens of millions of other doses that had already expired.
  • New York just made it legal to quarantine and isolate citizens indefinitely. Regulation 10 NYCRR 2.13 gives the state the ability to instruct the Department of Health to “pick and choose which New Yorkers they can lock up or lockdown without any proof they are sick and without any proof that you’ve been exposed to a communicable disease,” according to Attorney Debbie Anne Cox, “and there is no time limit.”
  • The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has invoked “commercial confidentiality” to keep secret thousands of pages of data it collected from millions of Canadians without consent via cell phones during the COVID-19 plandemic, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.
  • The CEO of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced that they are, by far, the largest philanthropic donor to the World Health Organization. The foundation provides a whopping 88% of all voluntary funding. This funding makes up about threequarters of the WHO’s annual budget, which equates to about 66% of their overall budget. Most voluntary contributions are specified, meaning they are tied to a specific program or health campaign, giving the contributor influence over how they use the funds.
